Back in December, Everton held talks with Aaron Ramsey over a potential return to the Premier League.
Things hadn’t gone to plan for the Wales international since he swapped Arsenal for Juventus in 2019, and the Toffees smelt an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
Ramsey eventually joined Rangers on a short-term loan deal, but after doing a bit of pre-season work in Turin, the 31-year-old now finds himself in a very uncertain situation.
What’s the story?
Well, Juventus and Ramsey have decided to go their separate ways, after his contract was mutually terminated.
The Welshman is now a free agent, so if Everton still have any interest in him, they can sign him for free.
That represents an interesting opportunity for Frank Lampard, who has struggled to strengthen his squad so far this summer.

A £20m bid for Morgan Gibbs-White was swiftly rejected by Wolves, and the Toffees have only been able to sign James Tarkowski on a free transfer, which isn’t exactly the overhaul many wanted after flirting with relegation.
The arrival of Ruben Vinagre was also made official earlier today, a player who will bolster the left flank with his versatility, but even still, Lampard needs more central midfield options.
Everton should take a gamble on Aaron Ramsey
In our view, Everton should sign Ramsey on a free transfer.
The Caerphilly-born maestro is a goalscoring midfielder, so what better manager to work under than Lampard?
Ramsey has a respectable 20 goals in 74 outings for Wales, while he also netted 65 goals for Arsenal from midfield.

Specifically, the Welshman excels at timing his runs into the box to finish off chances, so we think he could benefit hugely from working with Lampard at Goodison Park.
Keep an eye on Ramsey’s situation, as we would be very surprised if nobody snaps up a player of his talent.
