Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is now ready to strike a deal to bring Steve Hitchen to Goodison Park after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s according to the Sunday Mirror (13/02, p75), who claim that Moshiri wants to get HItchen on board as Everton’s new director of football.

Hitchen has decided to leave Tottenham Hotspur, where he served as director of technical performance, and is now a wanted man.

Moshiri is allegedly ready to appoint Hitchen, believing there should be no issues with him being a former Liverpool man.

Hitchen served as a Liverpool scout under Damien Comolli, most notably pushing for the Reds to sign Luis Suarez back in 2011.

Rafael Benitez was unpopular after his spell with Liverpool, but the two are completely different situations.

Benitez famously talked down about Everton, calling them a small club – and Everton fans weren’t going to forget that.

Hitchen has never done any such thing, and working as a scout is hardly the same as managing a rival.

It’s stated that former Wolves man Kevin Thelwell, now the Head of Sport at New York Red Bulls, is another strong candidate at Everton.

However, Moshiri is ready to pull the trigger and bring in Hitchen to work above Frank Lampard and oversee recruitment.

Hitchen was well-respected at Tottenham but chose to leave because as Fabio Paratici’s rising influence at the club.

The belief is that Hitchen can still do great work in the transfer market for a Premier League club and Everton seem ready to buy in.

Everton have been chasing a new director of football since Marcel Brands’ exit, and it looks like Hitchen is nearing a move to replace the Dutchman.
