Frank Fabra was left out of the Boca Juniors side last night as the £18 million defender negotiates a move to Premier League newcomers Watford, as reported by Argentine publication Strikers.

Xisco Munoz’s side have been very busy indeed this summer, bringing in 14 new players including Turkey international Ozan Tufan, top-flight veteran Josh King and Emmanuel Dennis, the man who gave Real Madrid nightmares at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Hornets are not finished there though.

Watford have made a £4 million bid for AEK Athens forward Levi Garcia while their pursuit of a new left-back is ongoing too.

Is a Colombia international heading to Vicarage Road?

Representatives working on behalf of Frank Fabra told TYC Sports last week that Watford have expressed an interest in the athletic 23-capped Colombia international.

And the arrival of new Boca coach Sebastian Battaglia looks set to coincide with Fabra’s departure.

According to Strikers, Battaglia is planning to build his Boca side around the club’s exciting crop of youngsters with Fabra, who turned 30 in February, losing his place in the starting XI to a man ten years his junior during Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Platense.

It remains to be seen, however, if Watford are willing to trigger an £18 million release clause in the contract of a defender who will be 31 before the season is over.

There is a chance that Boca would let Fabra go for far less than that though, with his current deal due to expire in just two years.

Adam Masina has started both Watford’s two games since returning to the Premier League – a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa and a 2-0 defeat to Brighton.

Danny Rose remains the club’s other option at left-back, although it may take some time for the former England international to get up to speed after two years in stasis at Tottenham.
